Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

The Invisalign technique is a way to straighten your teeth as effectively as traditional braces, without the clunky metal work. Invisalign uses invisible plastic aligners that are custom fitted to your teeth to gradually correct alignment issues. They’re also removable, making eating and cleaning your teeth a snap.

What does Invisalign correct?

Invisalign corrects a broad range of alignment issues and imperfections in your teeth, including:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Open bite
  • Crowding
  • Crossbite

How does Invisalign work?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Geller, or one of the members of his team, digitally maps your teeth. Using these images, he shows you how Invisalign will correct your teeth and reviews the timeline with you.

Once you’ve agreed on a plan, Dr. Geller sends the images to the Invisalign lab where aligners are custom made to fit your teeth. The aligners are made with Invisalign’s proprietary SmartTrack® material, which predicts the movement of your teeth, allowing for faster results.

When you receive your aligners, you’ll wear them for 20-22 hours per day, removing them to eat and to clean your teeth. Every week or two, you’ll receive new aligners that slowly shift your teeth to reach your desired goals.

Every six weeks you’ll meet with Dr. Geller or a member of his team to review your progress and make any necessary tweaks.

How long does Invisalign treatment last?

The answer to this depends on the condition you’re trying to correct. If you’re only looking for a minor shift in your teeth, the process may only take three months. For more significant changes, you can expect to wear Invisalign for a year or more. The average length of time is one year.

Who can use Invisalign?

Invisalign is designed to correct teeth in both adults and teens. In fact, turning to Invisalign is an especially good idea for teens, because the system is easier to use and the aligners have virtually no visual impact, allowing your teen to smile with confidence.
